I built APerez.net as a place to collect the things I keep coming back to: cybersecurity, technology, amateur radio, and responsible firearms ownership. They may look like separate interests, but to me they have a common thread — understanding how systems work, learning where they fail, and getting better by actually using them.
Why this site exists
Most of my learning starts with a practical question. How do I make a home network easier to manage without making it less secure? What can I automate instead of checking manually? How can I get more out of a radio setup without turning the hobby into a pile of disconnected boxes and software? Which technology is genuinely useful, and which is mostly marketing?
This blog is where I want to document those projects while they are still fresh. Some posts will be clean how-to notes. Others will be lessons learned after I take the long way around a problem. I also want a record of the choices I made and why, because six months later that context is usually more valuable than the final command or setting.
Cybersecurity and technology
I am especially interested in practical security: networks, Linux, containers, self-hosted services, authentication, backups, monitoring, and the small configuration decisions that determine whether a system is resilient or fragile. I am less interested in buzzwords than in repeatable setups that can survive real use.
Technology coverage here will follow the same rule. I want to look at hardware and software in terms of what they let you build, automate, understand, or improve.
Amateur radio
Ham radio is a perfect technical hobby because it never really ends. There is always another antenna question, another propagation condition, another digital mode, another software integration, or another station improvement to explore. I plan to write about what I am testing, what works, what does not, and how modern networking and automation can fit into a radio station without taking away from the radio itself.
Firearms
I will also cover firearms from the perspective of responsible ownership, engineering, gear, maintenance, history, safety, and the technology surrounding the shooting sports. The goal is thoughtful discussion and useful observations, not outrage or political noise.
A human-written center with live signals around it
The layout of this site is intentional. My own writing lives in the center. The side columns pull fresh headlines from sources related to the subjects I follow, so the page works as both a personal notebook and a compact dashboard of what is happening around those interests.
If a project teaches me something useful, fixes an annoying problem, or sends me down an interesting technical rabbit hole, it will probably end up here.
